I’m a huge believer in romanticizing your life and the best way I know how to do that is taking pictures. I’m no photographer but that doesn’t mean I don’t like to try to capture small moments in a beautiful way!
One thing to note: I’m no professional and I’m just a mama that wants to capture the everyday, but just a little more elevated. So if you’re looking for a blog that is going to jump in the nooks and crannies, here’s one that helped my decision.
Let’s get into it.
When I was searching for a camera, I was completely overwhelmed with the amount of opinions and options! There are so many things to consider like image sensors, effective pixels, video resolution, removable lenses, auto focus…you get the picture.
What can help the most before you dive deep into your research is write out a list of why you desire a more elevated camera setup. This will drastically help with narrowing down your search. Here is my list to help you get started:
Capture both photos and videos
Interchangeable lens (eventually)
Compact and mirrorless (something that i can easily throw into a bag)
Easy to use out of the box (think play now, learn as you go)
So what did I end up with? Drum roll please…
I ultimately decided on the Sony ZV-E10. This camera is marketed primarily as a vlogging camera, but it definitely can be used as primarily a photography camera if you want it to be! I personally bought a kit with a standard lens because diving deep into the lens world is a whole different story. Here’s my quick pros and cons list on this camera:
Pros
This camera has the ability to send the photos you take directly from the camera to your phone! This makes it easy and quick to edit and post on the gram.
The amount of buttons isn’t overwhelming and relatively easy to understand
Quality. It’s amazing how much more elevated my photos are shooting with this camera than it is shooting with my iPhone.
You can move the screen around to the front and tilt it up and down (what they call “fully articulated”)
LCD screen makes this feel like you point and shoot, just like you do on your phone.
It’s compact enough. I can stick this in my small to medium purses, no big deal.
It’s easy to use for other people when someone offers to take a photo of your family.
It’s fun to use! There’s something about getting a
Cons
No viewfinder. This is only kind of a con for me, personally. My husband says it’s hard to see during bright days but honestly, I’m a guestimate point and shoot type of gal anyways and hope it turns out ok :)
I couldn’t figure out how to transfer the photos to my phone for the LONGEST time, until I finally found something on reddit. You need to turn off your bluetooth and cellular data. Don’t ask me why…but that’s how I got it to work.
Since the lens is interchangeable, the lens has a cover on it so you have to take the cover on and off when you’re using the camera. This is such a knit-picky con, but it is something I think about when I take pictures!
At the end of the day, know that you don’t need a fancy camera. If you own an iPhone, that is more than enough! iPhone photo tips coming soon :)
